On Brendon's way to second period, Jon talked nonstop about study hall. Brendon sighed as he slid into his seat. Jon stopped talking and looked at Brendon.

"So," he said. "You and Gabe?"

"I don't even know," Brendon said. "He's just so cute."

"I know what you mean," Jon told him. "Usually he just gets someone for a night. He actually seems into you."

"Is that supposed to be an insult, asshole?"

"No," Jon said. "I'm just telling you." He looked around. "Why are we even in this class? We took chemistry during freshman year."

"Our moms wanted us to be in class with people our age," Brendon said.

The teacher walked in, this one nothing like Ashlee. He wore a large lab coat that had a bow tie peeking over the top, and he had his hair combed over to one side of his head.He was a very stereotypical science teacher, in Brendon's opinion. His name tag read "Professor Jameson." He began to talk, introducing himself and the course, and the door opened. Under the frame stood Spencer and Ryan.

"Can I help you?" Professor Jameson asked.

"I don't know," Ryan said. "Can you?"

"Drop the sass," Professor Jameson said. Spencer elbowed Ryan.

"We got transferred into here," Spencer said.

"Thank you," the professor said. "Take those two seats near the back."

Ryan and Spencer followed orders and came to sit in front of Brendon and Jon. Ryan turned to look at Brendon.

"Well," he said. "If it isn't Gabe Saporta's new boy toy."

"Fuck you," Brendon said.

"Okay," was Ryan's comeback. "Let me know when Saporta lets you off the leash."

Brendon just stared at him. "Did you seriously just say that?"

Ryan smiled. "You're adorable."

Brendon blushed and Jon started chuckling. That's when Brendon first heard Spencer's voice.

"Ryan," he said. "Stop teasing the poor boy. It's not nice."

"Ross, Smith!" Professor Jameson yelled. "Shut your mouths! It's the first day and you're already being disrespectful."

"Sorry, Professor," Spencer said. "We were just trying to get Brendon and Jon here adjusted to their new school."

Realization dawned on the teacher's face. "Oh," he said. "I didn't realize they were new. That's very kind of you, Mr. Smith." The teacher faced the entire class again. "Ladies and gentlemen, you may talk amongst yourselves if you wish. I'll hand out textbooks tomorrow."

As he moved to sit at his desk, Ryan looked Brendon in the eyes. He smiled, his white teeth shining brightly under the fluorescent lights. Brendon was in awe.

"Are you going to Gabe's party Friday?" Ryan asked.

"Of course," Brendon said.

"You sure your mom will let you?" was the next question.

"Well, no," Brendon said. "But she should. I'll tell her I'm going to hang out with my new friends in the neighborhood."

"Tell her it's at Mrs. Saporta's," Ryan said. "Everyone thinks she's a great mother, she'll never suspect there's gonna be anything bad going on."

"Are you implying that there will be?" Brendon asked.

"You've obviously never been in Gabe Saporta's basement," Ryan said. Brendon shook his head. "Whatever you do, don't let Gabe make your drink. Let Bob, Greta's friend from the East Side, make it for you. He makes really good fruit drinks."

"Because that's totally not gay," Spencer said. He turned to Jon. "But he's right. Bob makes amazing drinks."

"So does Jon," Brendon said. "Just, not alcoholic ones. But he makes some badass coffee."

"Seriously?" Spencer asked Jon, who nodded.

"I work at Starbucks in the afternoon," Jon said. "I used to in the mornings, but I can't do that at this school, it starts too early."

"When did you guys start at your old one?" Ryan asked.

"Nine," Brendon said. "It was so much nicer. I didn't have to get up until eight, and my dad would drive me instead of me having to walk in the mornings."

"Walking isn't that bad," Ryan said. "I've been doing it since kindergarten."

The bell rang. "See you at lunch?" Ryan asked.

"How do you know we have lunch together?" Brendon asked.

"I looked at your schedule, duh," Ryan said. "It's been sitting in front of you since the beginning of class."

"Oh," Brendon said. "Well, see you later then."

Brendon's classes before lunch sped by. Mostly because he spent them dazed, trying to tune Jon and his blabbing out. Brendon had come the assumption that Jon had a boycrush on Spencer. But that was just a thought. When Brendon and Jon walked into the cafeteria, they were greeted by a table full of their study hall classmates. Seeing them, Ryan pointed them out to the table and everyone stood and walked up to them. Gabe slipped his arm around Brendon's waist and led him back out the door and down the hall. He was just about to ask where they were going when Ashlee stepped out of her classroom with a smile.

"Come on in," she said, moving to the edge of the door frame. Greta led the way into the room and settled on top of one of the desks. Everyone else followed suit.

"See," Gabe said. "Ashlee loves us. No other teacher in this school would let students into their classrooms during lunch unless they needed to make up a test or something. Much less buy them food."

Sure enough, Ashlee's arms held bags of McDonald's. Brendon could see salads and french fries peeking through the plastic of the bags. Gabe hopped off the desktop and held his hand out to Brendon.

"Come on," Gabe said. "We're not gonna make you starve."

"Hey, Brendon," Ashlee said when he was in front of her. She held one of the bags of salads out to him. He took one out and grabbed a box of fries from beside the bag.

"Ho do you afford all this?" he asked. Ashlee smiled.

"My dad is kind of rich," she said. "He's a surgeon, and still sends me an allowance. He doesn't think I can live on a teacher's salary. Don't worry, you'll never have to buy lunch at this school. I love spending my dad's money."

"You also love scaring him," Pete said, appearing behind Gabe.

"What do you mean?" Brendon asked them.

"She took him home for Christmas," Gabe told him. "Her dad wasn't too happy about that."

Brendon looked around questioningly.

"I'm really only here to babysit," Ashlee explained. "I'm still working on my degree. I just fill in for study halls throughout the day. It's one of the problems about partying your first three years of college away. But they needed an 'adviser,' so I applied. Easy money."

"But she's still a teacher," Patrick said, grabbing a salad and some fries. "And getting laid by a teacher is amazing for your social status."

Gabe laughed and gave Patrick a high five. "Man, Stump, I never expected to hear you say something like that."

"Neither did I," Ashlee said. "Patrick, I'm hurt." She looked down at her feet. When she looked back up at him, she was smirking. "Don't you remember that little scare last year?"

Patrick blushed in reply, and Travis cried, "Patrick Stump kissed a girl?" Patrick punched him in the arm.

"You were cheating on me?" Pete asked. At first Brendon thought he was talking to Ashlee, but when he looked at him, Pete's eyes were fixed on Patrick. Patrick sighed.

"Pete," he said slowly, carefully. "We weren't dating. We never dated last year."

Pete frowned. "But, Patrick..."

"No," Patrick cut him off. "We didn't. Ever. Got it?"

"Come on," Gabe said in Brendon's ear. "Let's go back and sit down. Sometimes you've just got to let them fight it out."

Brendon followed Gabe back to the desks. He took the plastic fork Gabe held out to him with a frown.

"Do they do this often?" he asked Gabe.

"Only every now and then," Gabe said. "Look, Brendon, I wanna ask you something."

"What?" Brendon asked him.

"Well, I know you're new to your sexuality, right?" Brendon nodded. "So would it be too much if...never mind."

"Forget it," Gabe said. "How was your day so far?" Brendon frowned. He had been sure Gabe was about to ask him out. But Gabe looked nervous, biting his lip and fiddling with the hem of his shirt, and Brendon just wanted him happy. So he gave in to the change of subject.

"Pretty good," he said. "Ryan and Spencer are in my chem class."

"Those two are so stupid," Gabe said. "Spencer has been trying to get with Haley, the teacher's aide, since freshman year. He's kind of hopeless."

"It's cute that he's so determined," Brendon stated.

"Sure," Gabe said. "And a mountain lion is cuddly and adorable. Then you try to pet him."

"Are you guys talking about Spencer?" Pete asked.

"Yeah," Gabe said, pulling Brendon onto his lap to make room for Pete. "You and Patrick work things out?"

"Yeah," Pete said. "And that's not cool, man. You hooked up with my boy? And you kept it a secret from me? How could you do that and not tell me how it went?"

"Chill, Pete," Brendon said, laughing.

"Man," Gabe said. "It was, like, a week. I didn't want you to get pissed off at me. You have this knack of wanting to murder anyone who gets close to him. You know, I kinda value my life."

"I wouldn't murder you," Pete said. "We don't need any basement ghosts singing."

Brendon's eyes scanned the room. Jon was leaning against the wall, talking to Sisky. Vicky T was sitting with her legs crossed on one of the desks, laughing at a joke Ryland was telling her. Nate and Alex were arm wrestling beside them, Singer, Marshall, and Ian were cheering them on. Cash and Johnson were talking to Ashlee near the door. Joe was...well, Brendon didn't know where Joe was, but Patrick and Greta were sitting by Ashlee's desk-- kissing? Brendon shut his eyes and reopened them moments later, and, sure enough, Patrick had his lips pressed softly to Greta's. Brendon nearly choked on the piece of lettuce in his mouth. He looked down and saw that he had eaten most of his salad while he was sitting there.

"Brendon?" Pete asked, looking at him with concern in his eyes. "You okay?"

"Yeah," Brendon said, swallowing hard. "Just swallowed too soon." His eyes wandered over to where Patrick and Greta sat, hands intertwined between them. Brendon had never seen anyone smile like Patrick was smiling now.

"I think you're done with this," Gabe said, pulling the salad container from Brendon's hands. Brendon smirked at him and grabbed the box of fries, shoving one into his mouth. Gabe shook his head, walking over to the trash can.

"You saw them, didn't you?" Pete asked, taking a handful of Brendon's fries. Brendon nodded. "So did I. That's okay, though. I'll survive."

"Are you sure?" Brendon asked. Pete looked happy, but there was something underlying the smile. Pete took a few more fries.

"Of course," Pete said. "I'm great!"

"Cut the bushlit, Pete," Brendon said. "We both know you care about Patrick."

"Seriously," Pete said, smiling again. "There's this guy from the East, I've had my eye on him. His name is Mikey, he works down at the comic book store."

"Does he have a brother that works there?" Brendon asked. "Blonde hair?"

"Sure does," Pete said. "Gerard."

"He's pretty cool," Brendon said. "A little weird, but cool. He and Frank are really close."

"You know Frank?" Pete asked.

"We hung out a bit over the summer," Brendon said with a smile. He shoved a few more fries into his mouth and held the box out to Pete, who grabbed another handful.

"You and Frank Iero?" Pete cried. Brendon shushed him

"It was no big deal." Brendon shook his head and sighed. "He found Gerard. I'm happy for him."

"Really?" Brendon nodded. "You were the one Mikey talked about!"

"What?" Brendon asked. He was confused now. Why would Mikey have talked about him?

"He said Frank was always talking about 'his one special boy,'" Pete said, overusing his air quotes. "It was you all along!"

"Wow," Brendon said. He hadn't thought Frank had felt so strongly about him. "I didn't--"

He was cut off by yelling across the room. He whipped his head around and saw Bill storm into the room, Travis following quickly behind and pulling his shirt over his head.

"Bill!" he cried. Well, shouted. Bill was the one with tears carving paths down his cheeks. Travis pulled him into his arms, ignoring Bill's attempts to break free of his hold, whispering, "William, baby."

William managed to pull loose of Travie's arms, running forward and into Jon's chest. Jon wrapped his arms around the other boy's tiny frame and glared at Travis. Brendon started towards him, but Gabe beat him to it. He shoved Travis back, hard.

"What the fuck did you do, man?" he yelled. Brendon cringed at the anger in Gabe's voice. Gabe pulled Travis towards him, holding a death grip to his shirt. "What the fuck did you do?"

Brendon's breath caught as fear crossed Travie's face. It was quickly replaced with guilt.

"Mis H.," Travis gasped. "We were, well, sort of." He gulped. "Messing around last year. And she wanted to, uh, welcome me back."

"I walked in on my boyfriend attempting to fuck my old teacher!" Bill cried. But his eyes didn't hold the rage of his voice. They held sadness and hurt, the moisture shining at the brim of his bottom lid. He broke free of Jon's hold and ran out the door. Brendon followed him into the closest restroom, where Bill had sunk down to the floor against the wall.

"Hey," Brendon said, walking over to him and sitting down beside him. He wrapped his arms around the boy and pulled him close. "It's gonna be okay."

"How can you say that?" Bill asked against Brendon's chest. "Travis was my life. He meant everything to me. How would you feel if Gabe went behind your back and was messing with your teacher?"

Brendon sighed. "I don't know. I've never really thought about him like that." Bill looked at him. "Okay, so I have. But he's not my boyfriend."

"Sure," Bill said.

"Look, Bill." Brendon turned so that he was looking in Bill's eyes. "Gabe is in there, ready to kick Travie's ass. I'm pretty sure he regrets what he did."

"That's true." Bill smiled slightly and turned his head. "Gabe has always been protective of me." He looked at his phone. "Lunch is almost over. Let's go." He got to his feet and held his hand out to help Brendon up. Brendon took it.

"Thanks," he said.

"I should be thanking you," Bill said. He held the door open and Brendon led the way out into the hall and to Ashlee's classroom. When he opened the door, he was greeted with the sight of Pete and Jon holding Gabe back from Travis. Gabe was pulling against their holds in a desperate attempt to get to the boy across from him. Ashlee stood to the side, concern in her eyes.

"What's going on?" Brendon asked. Gabe turned to him.

"That little fucker," he spat. "Thought it would be funny to talk about how good it was." He turned back to Travis. "I can't fucking believe you could do that."

"Gabe, calm down," Brendon said. He looked at Travis. "That's just pathetic."

Travis looked like he was about to say something, but the bell cut him off. Brendon grabbed his bag and swept out of the room. Two classes left.

A/N: Miss H. is only slightly based off my student teacher in English. She really ticked me off the other day, so I wrote this in her class. If she just happens to be the slutty teacher, it's not my fault or anything...*winks*

If you ever find a high school without drama, let me know. I can't seem to find one...oh, wait. That's because they don't exist, not even in my (made up) reality.

Nice quote

Success is something I will dress for when I get there, and not until.
